tmixʷ (all living things) | tmxʷulaxʷ (the land)
Our culture is the land, the living things, all our relations, and our interconnectivity. In curating our newest display, we worked with community to create artistic representations of some of our traditional medicines. We hope that by sharing our connection to the land, we are able to create a better understanding of our ongoing and shared relationship with the land and all those that inhabit it.
Fire and the Okanagan
Fire is not new to the Okanagan — the out of control nature of it is. Traditionally, the syilx people would utilize fire as a calculated land maintenance tool - this practice was known as a prescribed burn.

We were lucky enough to join Okanagan College’s sp‘its‘n harvesting excursion. We also learned how to turn sp‘its‘n fibers into rope!
